This recipe was created by a good friend of mine who also happens to be my chiropractor. She is very well-versed in nutrition and is our area GAPS practitioner, so she knows all about gut healing and healing the entire body. One of her talents is coming up with great gut healing recipes and this one is one of my favorites. I am glad she allowed me to share it here.

My grandma made “Russian tea” and it is one of my best memories of her. But, she made it with Tang and Instant Lipton Tea!!! I simply had to recreate it. This new and healthier version is so good that even my mom likes it!

Here is why it’s also a healing beverage:

  1. I would love to try this but have a pretty severe allergy to cinnamon. Any suggestions for an alternative?

    Reply

    1. Just omit the cinnamon

  2. I am wondering why you are using the Red label gelatin, instead of the Green label that doesn't thicken?

    1. I did not write the post, it’s what my friend Carrie uses…but that is a very good point! She uses the same recipe every time, but with the cold tea recipe the green might be best 🙂

  3. I’m just curious—why the use of gelatin? What does that do for the recipe?

thanks….(I know that Stevia is VERY sweet, so could you also give the replacements’ amounts for this recipe?

        1. Does it need a sweetener? I might just omit, or maybe try turbinado sugar or zylitol (sweetners that I prefer)

          1. I like the sweet to make it taste like Russian tea, but you could certainly leave it out.

        2. What would you sub for the stevia, and how much?

  7. Mmm, my gut is like reaching for this right now 🙂 I just finished my evening cup of chicken stock with gelatin in it but it still wants more soothing (it's worse than kids sometimes I swear, but after the holidays and all the treats I had I'll let it scream). This looks perfect!

  8. I would think it could depend on the ratio of the gelatin to liquid…… I always use the red cuz it's kosher .

    Reply

  9. Great Lakes Gelatin, both red and green label are kosher. The Red label will thicken (gel) for homemade jello and gummy bears. The green label will not thicken (gel) at all, hot or cold. We put Great Lakes Gelatin Green Label in our coffee every morning. I can't find it in the stores. I have to order it online.

  10. I am disappointed at the total lack of response and failure to publish my question with regard to this recipe being gluten Fee even though it clearly contains barley and rye. I understand this is not your recipe however, I would have expected you to pass on the question…..very disappointed and loosing respect, as I guess you only publish glowing reviews and responses of just omit X.

    1. I am sorry Donna, your comment must have been accidentally deleted as I do not see it anywhere. With regards to it being gluten free, this is taken directly from their website. I hope it answers your question…

This is the most frequently asked of all questions about Dandy Blend.
Please read all the way to the bottom for the complete answer.

Dandy Blend is made of the water-soluble extracts of five ingredients; three roots and two grains (barley and rye), not from the ingredients themselves. The ingredients are roasted separately and then combined in prescribed proportions, placed into a vat, covered with hot water, and allowed to steep for a prescribed period of time. The water, with the soluble portions of all the components, is separated from the grounds and spray dried. The remaining fine brown powder left after the water is driven off is what becomes Dandy Blend. All the gluten and other water-insoluble substances are left behind in the grounds to be composted.

Hence, the gluten from Barley and Rye, according to ELISA tests, is removed from Dandy Blend. Goosefoot Acres periodically submits samples of Dandy Blend to Elisa Technologies Laboratory in Florida, one of the most respected gluten testing labs in the United States, for analysis, and so far, every test has come back gluten-free. Click to see test results letter.

It meets the FDA standards for gluten-free, registering less than 5 parts per million for both gliadin and gluten, which is far below the limit of 20 parts per million allowed for gluten-free classification.

A few people have reported experiencing symptoms of gluten ingestion. We realize that Dandy Blend, like any other food, may not be suitable for everyone. Each of us is physiologically different. Some medicines work for some, not for others. Some people can eat certain foods and others cannot. The same is true for beverages.

It is for this reason that we offer free samples so you can try it at no cost before investing in Dandy Blend. Please ask our customer service professionals, either by e-mail ([emailprotected]) or by phone (800-697-4858), to send you samples.

Sorry to hear that you are losing respect, I do not only publish glowing reviews.

  12. So this actually helps leaky gut? I don’t know if I have it, but I do know that certain foods set me off as in being very nauseous or my stomach just flat hurting! It seems like I have problems digesting fats. The only fat so far that hasn’t given me problems is coconut oil. And yes, we’re pretty healthy eaters. Don’t do a lot of bread, or sweets…make pretty much everything from scratch…so would this drink actually help me? Also I have an issue with gelatin. I used to have to drink the nasty stuff in a chicken broth when I was pregnant as per my midwife said and that stuff got so slimy and ick!!! Would this be the same thing??

  13. Kate, my only comment here is that I remember this hvg a distinct orange flavor!… hence, the tang!🤗. So, since I have a hard time grinding up very finely dried orange peels, I feel your idea of adding the calms magnesium would be great!… just add the one with lemon… or do they hv an orange flavor?🤔. And… I feel bad you had to read the … um, notsonice comment on the dandy blend!😔😉♥️ Judy 🤗♥️🙏♥️🤗

    1. Yeah the lemon flavor magnesium is perfect, I am not sure if there is an orange flavor.
