Percy Jackson: Here's How Bianca di Angelo Died (2024)

‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ is a young adult franchise, but despite being oriented toward younger audiences, the books have their fair share of heartbreak. Nico di Angelo and his older sister, Bianca di Angelo, are minor characters, but their lives are filled with tragedy due to being Hades’ children, Forbidden Children. At some point in the books, Bianca’s journey finished prematurely, and today, we’re going to tell you everything about it.

  • Article Breakdown:
  • Bianca di Angelo died in the third book ‘Titan’s Curse’ being killed by Hephaestus’ defective automaton, Talos. She was either electrocuted inside Talos or consequently crushed to death as the robot fell apart, it’s unclear.
  • It was ultimately Bianca’s fault because she set off the trap mechanisms after stealing a Mythomagic figurine for her younger brother, Nico, and this is why she volunteered to go up against Talos.
  • Bianca eventually chose rebirth, which a hero would do three times in order to live in an area of the Underworld called The Isles of the Blest, meaning that Nico would never see her again.

Bianca was almost killed as a child

The stories behind Bianca and Nico’s births are complicated, and despite being children of Hades, who was one of the big three, they were born before the pact was made and technically did not break it. Born in Venice, Italy, in 1927 to Maria Di Angelo and Hades, she grew up in a Catholic household.

Bianca and Nico were almost killed by Zeus as a child when he, attempting to prevent the prophecy from taking place, struck the hotel where they were staying with lighting, leading to their mother’s death. The siblings, however, were protected by Hades, and they survived, shielded by an impenetrable wall of black energy. However, Hades couldn’t save their mother in time. Devastated, Hades ordered the Fury Alecto to take Nico and Bianca to the Underworld, where their memories were erased in the River Lethe.

What kills Bianca in Percy Jackson?

Bianca died in ‘Titan’s Curse,’ Chapter 13 titled “We Visit The Junkyard of the Gods” while she was crossing the Junkyard of the Gods, which goddess Aphrodite warned them not to take anything from it. Bianca was particularly interested in Hunter’s bow that transforms into a crescent-shaped hair clip. As they prepare to leave, they face an attack from Hephaestus’ automaton, Talos. During the encounter, Percy accuses Bianca of taking the Hunter’s Bow. However, Bianca reveals she took a Mythomagic figurine for her younger brother, Nico, to complete his collection. To defeat Talos, Percy and Bianca devise an extremely dangerous plan, but Bianca insists on facing the automaton herself, feeling responsible for taking the figurine.

Percy told the group that there had to be a hatch or something underneath the Automaton’s foot, a way to control it somehow, but whoever came near would face almost certain danger of being crushed to death. Bianca insisted that she should be the one to enter the automaton. To enter the automaton, he had to raise his foot. The group taunted him, and the plan was successful; Bianca was able to enter the automaton and control it from the inside; she redirected him straight into the powerlines, and blue flickers of electricity shot up his body. This is possibly the moment that Bianca died since there was no guarantee that the robot was insulated from the inside.

However, what came next proved to be 100 % deadly. Talos started running away, and as he ran, he was falling apart, and giant metal pieces were hitting the ground en masse. The giant crumbled from the top down: his head, his chest, and finally, his legs collapsed. Even if Bianca, by some miracle, managed to survive the electrocution, she could not survive being crushed under the wreckage.

The group searched what was left of the automaton but couldn’t locate Bianca, concluding that she was dead. With Bianca’s death, the prophecy “One shall he lost in the land without rain,” was fulfilled.

What were Bianca Di Angelo’s last words?

Technically Bianca’s last words were “Get it to raise its foot!” referring to the giant automaton, but the last words we would like to remember are “If anything happens, give that to Nico. Tell him… tell him I’m sorry.

Nico tried to resurrect Bianca but was unsuccessful

In ‘The Son of Neptune,’ Nico traveled to the Underworld while Thanatos, the God of Peaceful Death, was away captured by Gaia, meaning that the Death stopped completely. She wanted to sneak Bianca out of the Underworld but soon learned that she had chosen rebirth, which a hero would do three times in order to live in an area of the Underworld called The Isles of the Blest. Nico was heartbroken by her decision because it meant that he would never see his sister again. Instead of resurrecting Bianca, Nico chose Hazel Levesque, Pluto’s daughter (Hades but Roman) and referred to her as sister.
