Rev up your engines, today, I'm going to answer a question I, get all the time from people, is it bad for my car's engine? If someone put too much oil inside it, well, not having enough oil in your car, obviously it's a bad thing.
If you don't have enough, metal parts that get oil lubrication will now be dry if there's not enough oil, and then metal will rub on metal and goodbye.
Engine.
A lot of people might think, hey, more oil in the engine, hey, that's, a good thing.
But no in reality, too much.
Oil it's also a bad thing, way, overfilled I'm, not talking about half a quart or something, I'm talking about somebody who put a quart, two three, quarts too much oil.
And so that it's way over the full mark, and if that's done and left in the engine for long periods of time, it can actually be just as bad as not having enough oil in, with way, too much oil then you're spinning crankshaft inside the engine, it's spinning really fast.
It can start hitting the oil in the bottom of the pan.
Normally it isn't that high, but if it's too high it'll start hitting oil it's in the bottom of the pan and smash it into it, especially at higher rpms, this hitting of the oil and coming out of the oil and hitting it.
Again can create bubbles in the oil.
When you're spinning say, three, four or five thousand rpms, you can create an awful lot of bubbles that way.
And that creates foaming inside the engine oil, which is a really bad thing because oil pumps inside the engine.
They spin around and they're made to pump liquid oil.
They pump it from the bottom of the engine up to the top to lubricate the camshafts as they spin around.
And if you've got a bunch of foamy oil, the pump is made to pump.
A liquid, foam has a lot of air in it.
It will not pump it correctly.
And if it doesn't pop, it correctly, guess what, parts won't, get oil that are supposed to especially in overhead cam, engines.
The top of the cam won't get lubrication it'll, be starved of oil.
And you can ruin an engine that way you don't want that pump, pumping anything but liquids.
So you don't want to have so much oil.
It starts whacking into it and foaming.
The oil.
Now, the next reason was related to that, an engine has a certain amount of space inside.
If you add extra oil, it's going to take up space and normally didn't have oil in it, it's gonna build up pressure, that's, a bad thing, that could start blowing the seals out of the engine, which is, you might think Oh big deal.
You know, the crank seal cost eight dollars, yes.
But to change that crank seal, you either have to pull the engine out of the car or take the transmission off the engine.
And in many designs, you got to pull the engine and transmission as a unit because the way their designed, take them apart on the ground, replace the seals and put it in, that can cost you thousands of dollars.
You don't want seals blowing out because there's too much pressure because it's full of too much oil.
And another reason is even more serious.
If you have way too much oil, you can get oil seeping past everything, and it can actually hydro lock the Pistons, realize that going into your engine is a combination of air that can be compressed quite a bit without doing any damage, and gasoline vapors that can also be compressed, but oil.
Now it doesn't compress that much.
It can only compress a tiny bit.
So if you get a bunch of oil, when the Pistons go up, it can't compress that oil, it can actually bend the piston rod or break the head.
You get a lot of pressure in there.
When those valves are closed, all that pressure does is build up.
And since the piston is connected to the piston, rod, it's connected to the crankshaft.
The piston always has to go up the same exact distance, back down again and back up.
And if it's going up and that stuff is blocked by oil.
It has to keep pushing well.
It keeps pushing, either the head can get damaged or more often.
The piston rod itself.
It'll get bent, it'll, be going up and down the wrong distance start making knocking noises.
You don't want this kind of stuff to happen to your engine, because somebody put too much oil in it.
Now, modern gasoline engines are pretty well designed.
They've got a little bit extra space in it.
If you got half a quart of oil too much in most engines that is gonna hurt anything at all, but don't put a quart, two, three quarts or more extra oil in, because it can do all those damages, really expensive stuff that a simple check can fix it, just check your oil level.
Now, some modern cars are real squirrely.
This is an old one, when it's on the full line and we'll wipe it off.
You can see the full is in f.
This is about a quart of oil here.
If it's under here, it's more than a quart down.
So when it comes to your oil dipstick, you want to understand where the readings are, some of the modern ones, hey, they're made out of plastic stuff.
They have knobs and little twirls.
And since they're made out of plastic, a lot of times, they actually break.
And if that happens to you heed, this warning, I had a customer who had that happen.
They just went to an auto parts store and got a dipstick.
They thought was the right one.
It was the wrong one.
And they went by the dipstick.
They put way too much oil in and the engine.
Hydro, locked and broke.
It was destroyed, go to the dealer and get the actual one if yours is broken.
And of course, the best thing to do is to find out how much oil your car takes with an oil and filter change.
Then if you do it yourself and you put the oil in, you put the right amount.
If it says, five point, four, quarts, you put five point, four, quarts, in.
Now, let's say, there's, too much.
Oil in.
All you got to do is get a clean drain pan.
And just take the drain top off empty.
It out, pour the right amount back in.
You don't waste it.
If it's just been changed in some fool put too much oil in it, or if you're mechanically inclined like me, and you have a vacuum pump like I have.
You just stick it in your oil, dipstick hole.
It feed right in.
And then you can just suck it right out of the engine.
And then just remember when you do check your oil, you want to check it on a flat level surface, when the engine is cold, my father ran a gas station.
But after he retired hey, one time he called me up and said, oh I think my Toyotas burning oil.
He said, he checked out, and it was on the quart low line on the bottom.
Where did you check it,? He said, oh here in our condo here, I said, I've been to those condos it's hilly up, there, I said, will you park it on a flat surface like in a Walmart or something,? And he did.
And of course, it was totally full then.
So you got to make sure you check it on a level, surface, and really it's a good idea to check it cold because oil does expand somewhat as it heats up.
So if you check it when it's ice cold that's, the perfect reading after it, sat for a while, where it all got to drain just to the right level.
So you know, you're getting a true reading and not a false one.
So now you know the truth about having too much oil in your engine, and what you can easily do about it yourself before something serious goes wrong.
So if you never want to miss another, one of my new car, repair videos, remember to ring that Bell!.

Engine Overheating Damage
The most common way that engines sustain major damage is from overheating. When an engine runs too hot, it can cause gaskets and seals to leak, can cause metal components to bend and warp and can even cause metal parts to fuse together and seize the engine if things get really, really hot.
– There are a few ways to damage a car without leaving evidence.. – One way is to use a bat or a rock to hit the car. Another way is to pour a corrosive substance on the car, such as acid. Finally, you can also damage the car by hitting it with a blunt object.
What is the best way to break in an engine? ›A general rule is to keep the engine under 4,000 rpm within the first 500-1000 miles, after which you can gradually dial things up. Doing a full acceleration during the engine break-in period puts strain on the piston rings and gas cylinders, which could accelerate engine wear.
What happens if you put bleach in a gas tank? ›Bleaches are usually made of two components: water and chlorine. Since chlorine is denser than water, it would stay at the bottom of the tank. However, the chlorine gas in the bleach would react with the fuel, causing corrosion in all the parts that come into contact with the liberated gas.
How to ruin an engine without evidence? ›Overheating an engine is the single fastest way to destroy it, even for those of us who don't have a thorough understanding of automobile engines.. The frame, heads, chambers, pistons, rods, and valves, as well as spark plugs, oil, and refrigerant, can all be damaged by overheating an engine.
What happens if you put hydrogen peroxide in a gas tank? ›The short-term effects may not have had negative consequences, but we can assure you that adding hydrogen peroxide to your gas tank will also have those. Hydrogen peroxide is a reactive chemical. Once inside the gas tank, it can spark and cause an ignition inside. That will lead to your car blowing up.
How do you catch someone messing with your car? ›To catch and identify someone who vandalizes, breaks into, damages or steals your car or belongings, you could go for the color night vision security cameras that capture important visual details, like the clothes color of the perpetrators, makes of the cars, or other details.

- Hard starts and stops.
Salt will not dissolve in gasoline but it will in any water in the tank. Then it will slowly corrode the bottom of the tank. Its unlikely to make it into the engine but you never know. The salt crystals may be sucked into the fuel pump and clog its filter so then the engine might not run.
How much water in a gas tank will ruin an engine? ›
You could fill your entire gas tank with water. It is unlikely to damage your engine. When the water hits your fuel filters, they will most likely plug up and your engine will stop running. If, by chance, water gets into the injectors and cylinders, your engine will start running very rough and also stop.
What's the worst thing you could put in a gas tank? ›There's no shortage of items that you shouldn't put in your car's gas tank, including but certainly not limited to water, sugar, salt, hydrogen peroxide, antifreeze, and brake fluid. Virtually anything that doesn't belong in the gas tank can be hazardous to the vehicle and the driver.
What happens if you put corn syrup in a gas tank? ›Generally speaking, when sugar or syrup is poured into a fuel tank, the best way to reduce damage to internal engine components is to remove the fuel tank and fuel pump and replace them, as the problem with corn syrup is that it will coat the fuel tank and fuel lines and take months or longer to fully dissolve.
What will crack an engine block? ›What Causes a Cracked Engine Block? Engine overheating is the most common cause of a cracked block. When the engine gets too hot, the block can crack as a result of thermal stress. Also, the block can crack in freezing temperatures if the cooling system is filled with too much water and not enough antifreeze.
What is the most efficient way to break-in a car? ›The right way to break in a new car
Doing an engine break-in used to be a standard procedure with new cars. And it's still the case that you should avoid running the engine at high RPM for the first 1,300 miles. Experts recommend a maximum 3,500 rpm and 90 mph in diesel models and 4,500 rpm and 100 mph in gas models.
It is a form of braking used to slow a truck down without using the air brakes. The reason small towns ban this practice is the loud noise it makes. If you've ever heard automatic gunfire or a jackhammer, that is what it sounds like.
What not to mix with gasoline? ›Mixing 2% diesel fuel into gasoline will lower the overall octane rating by 1 point. Getting 10% diesel contamination lowers octane by 5 points, which is enough to create problems in most engines.
What happens if you put vegetable oil in your gas tank? ›As vegetable oil has a very high viscosity, an engine will find it difficult in atomizing the fuel completely when it is sprayed into the combustion chamber, this will result in a clogged engine.
What happens if you pour brake fluid in your gas tank? ›Brake fluid is a LOOOOONG molecule alcohol, and I believe that it is miscible in gasoline. Fill your tank the rest of the way and run it. Your modern EFI and ECU won't be thrilled with it, and it won't be good for the catalytic converter(s), but it will probably be safely burned up in the fuel.
What blows up an engine? ›There can be several issues including a cracked block, destroyed pistons, or busted intake and exhaust valves. Sometimes a valve breaks and punches through the top of a piston. The broken valve will cause incredibly hot, pressurized oil and smoke to shoot out of the top of the engine.

- Crimp the Gas Line.
An engine can seize due to running on low/no oil, overheating or succumbing to a broken timing belt. These conditions eventually stop your engine in its tracks and a professional technician will be required to restore function.
What happens if you put a ping pong ball in a gas tank? ›Modern fuel systems in cars have a filter bowl around the pump intake, so the ping-pong ball will not block anything.
What happens when you mix hydrogen peroxide and sugar? ›The mixture of sugar and hydrogen peroxide produces a renewable liquid fuel that can be stored for long periods - weeks, months, years - and used when needed to power automobiles or to heat homes, factories and office buildings, or to power steam turbines for producing electricity during peak-time demand.
What wears out a car engine? ›Start-ups and short trips are where the most wear occurs in an engine. A cold engine is under-lubricated and it takes a few seconds for the oil to completely coat the surfaces. The metal itself will begin to expand as the engine warms up and this places stress on all of the gaskets and seals.
How do I know if I ruined my engine? ›Loud popping, knocking, and stuttering noises from the hood of your vehicle are cause for concern, and could be a sign of major engine damage.
How do you know if someone tampered with your car? ›If your car starts acting differently, it could be a sign that something has been tampered with. For example, if the engine starts revving up for no reason or the brakes feel like they're not working properly, it could be because a GPS tracker has been installed and is affecting the car's performance.

How do you scare car thieves? ›
Visible devices, such as a steering wheel lock, window etching or an alarm system's flashing light, may also be enough to deter a car thief, according to the NHTSA. If they are not sure they can get away with the car quietly or fear they may get caught, Firestone says they may just avoid your vehicle altogether.
What part of a car fails the most? ›- Timing belts. The belt's teeth can sheer off or it can snap in two or more pieces, leading to catastrophic engine failure and costly full engine rebuild. ...
- Brake system. ...
- Radiators and radiator hoses. ...
- Alternators. ...
- Water pumps. ...
- Shock absorbers. ...
- CV joints.
6. Silly String and Mustard. These two household items can leave a stain when they are left on the surface of your car to dry. The damage becomes worse if they are exposed to direct sunlight.
How long does it take to damage an engine without oil? ›The presence of oil and its distribution is absolutely crucial to an engines continued operation. Engines can work without oil, but the effect is so damaging they are only capable of running for less than 30 minutes until failing - and in most cases, it's a lot quicker than that.
What should I mix with petrol to damage the engine permanently? ›we can add sugar in the petrol that is easily available at anywhere. there will be a chemical reaction between petrol and sugar. the engine will be permanently damaged. so adding sugar will be more helpful then anything doing.
What is the blue liquid in gas tank? ›BLUE: Kerosene (Flammable)

Here are some tips to inspect you car and assess flood damage: Do not attempt to start an engine that has been flooded. A hydro-locked engine, if it even starts, will quickly destroy itself.
Can you tell if someone put water in your gas tank? ›One of the symptoms that you will immediately experience if there is water in your gas tank is trouble with acceleration and hesitation. If you have trouble getting up to highway speeds yet there is nothing wrong with the rest of your vehicle, you should look into the possibility of water in your tank.
How long does it take for water to mess up a car? ›Water can ruin electronics, lubricants, and mechanical systems. It may take months or years, but corrosion can find its way to the car's vital electronics, including airbag controllers. Consumers need to carefully inspect any used car before buying one (or pay a mechanic to do it).
Should you put Coke in your gas tank? ›Definitely not. The website Snopes clicked on the ad, which did lead to a page advertising EcoPlus which is a technical device that connects to your car. But in an email, the company said the ad is not theirs and Coke is not related to their product. Experts agree putting Coca-Cola in a gas tank can ruin your car.
What happens if I put diesel in my gas car? ›
What Happens when you put Diesel in a Gas Vehicle? Since diesel fuel is thicker and denser than gasoline, the fuel pump will struggle to move the diesel/gasoline mixture through the system. Also, the diesel will not be able to easily pass through the fuel filter. Instead, it will clog up the fuel filter.
What will putting candy in a gas tank do? ›Like any sediment, sugar can clog the fuel injectors or the fuel filter if there's too much of it. This might make it necessary to replace the fuel filter or even empty out the gas tank. This means that it's a nasty trick that will end up costing you money, but nowhere near the amount of complete engine destruction.

The fuel that has just reacted with the bleach will become inert and cause performance issues in your vehicle.
What happens if you put baking soda in a gas tank? ›It will clog up the fuel filter, which will have to removed and cleaned, and possibly the gas tank as well. But the engine itself won't suffer any damage. What can cause damage to the engine is water.
What blows a car engine? ›There can be several issues including a cracked block, destroyed pistons, or busted intake and exhaust valves. Sometimes a valve breaks and punches through the top of a piston. The broken valve will cause incredibly hot, pressurized oil and smoke to shoot out of the top of the engine.
Will water in gas tank ruin car? ›Long-Term Issues with Water in Your Gas Tank
Water can cause corrosion inside your fuel system and injectors and keep them from monitoring your fuel delivery rate properly. If left long enough, your injectors can eventually fail altogether, meaning your car won't start at all.
If your car isn't burning fuel efficiently due to a clogged air filter, fuel injector, or similar issue, this can have a knock-on effect within the exhaust system. And when the exhaust gets clogged with dirt and soot from the engine, this can lead to a notable drop in power output.
What is a fully blown engine? ›, a blown engine is defined as an engine that has been so severely damaged, it needs to be replaced or completely rebuilt. This might mean the block is cracked, the pistons are destroyed, the valves are damaged, the engine blew a gasket, or a number of other things.
Can a damaged engine be fixed? ›If you do have a blown engine, whether or not it can be fixed depends upon the extensiveness of the damage. If the damage is minimal, and a few parts can be replaced, the problem can be fixed. However, if the damage is great and impossible to repair, you may need a complete engine replacement.
